1987: Aeronautics
Fons spent the year 1978 working in the field of aeronautics.
He designed, built and flight-tested no less than six remarkable flying machines.
One
of the crafts, a single bladed, jet powered, backpack helicopter (18
kg) proved to be the smallest and lightest helicopter in the world.
He
also designed and started the construction of a giant balloon in which
he planned to make the first transatlantic flight from the United
States to Europe.
However, an American team successfully completed the flight that very same year.
